Lviv is more than a city — it is the digital capital of Western Ukraine and one of the country's three biggest IT ecosystems alongside Kyiv and Kharkiv. If your company is based in Lviv or in the Lviv region and you are looking for an experienced UI/UX designer who is comfortable with Lviv standards of quality, product culture and startup ethos — you found the right address. Oleksandr Filyuk is a senior UI/UX designer with 15+ years of experience, working with Lviv IT companies, product startups, agencies, hotels, restaurants, museums and cultural institutions. I help build digital products that pass the test of the most demanding audience — Lviv itself.
Lviv sets the quality bar for the entire Ukrainian creative economy. Here design is part of the cultural code, not just a line item. Every signboard, every website, every package of a local brand is judged by an audience that has seen Berlin, Krakow, Prague and Vienna. Working in this context demands a designer with international-grade execution — and that is exactly what I offer.
I offer a full range of services for Lviv companies — from designing SaaS products and branding for restaurateurs to consulting for venture-backed startups.
Lviv is the centre of the Lviv region with a population of more than 720,000, a museum-city whose historic core is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. It is the largest cultural, educational and tourist hub of Western Ukraine. Lviv is home to one of Ukraine's most powerful IT ecosystems: 30,000+ IT professionals, the headquarters of Lviv IT Cluster, the Lviv Tech City campus, and engineering universities — Lviv Polytechnic, the Ukrainian Catholic University, Ivan Franko National University. Lviv hosts offices of SoftServe, GlobalLogic, EPAM, Ciklum, Sigma Software, and product startups Grammarly, MacPaw (originally from Kyiv but with strong Lviv ties), People.ai, Restream and dozens more.
The Lviv region is also a tourism and HoReCa hub: every year the city welcomes millions of tourists from Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic and the United States. Tourism creates massive demand for high-quality hotel websites, apartment platforms, restaurants, museums, festivals and excursion bureaus. Lviv is famous for its gastronomic brand — coffee shops, chocolate workshops, concept restaurants — where identity and UX often matter more than for businesses in other cities.
The cultural and creative industries deserve special mention: publishers (Old Lion Publishing, Avers), theatres (Lesya Ukrainka Theatre), festivals (Lviv Coffee Festival, Lviv MediaForum, BookForum) and museums (Lviv Art Gallery, Potocki Palace). For all of these players, design is the foundation of the competition for attention.
Lviv also leads in edtech startups, fintech, e-commerce tooling and healthcare. I work across all these verticals and understand what strong product design looks like for a Western market.
I structure cooperation in the style Lviv product teams are used to — agile sessions, regular demos, transparent backlogs.
Stakeholder interviews, market analysis, JTBD, competitive research. I often work in tandem with the client's product manager.
Information architecture, user flows, wireframes, clickable Figma prototype for usability tests.
Pixel-perfect design, design system, component documentation, design tokens for development.
Working with your frontend team, code review of design details, design oversight.
Setting up metrics, A/B tests, iteration — full-cycle conversion optimisation.
Three tiers: Starter — landing or MVP site; Business — a full product with a design system; Premium — complex digital ecosystems, full rebrands and product strategy for venture-backed startups. The exact figure is shaped after a free discovery call. Browse examples in the projects section.
Can we meet in person? Yes. I am regularly in Lviv, meeting at Lviv IT Cluster, coworking spaces like LvivWorks, Veritas, in cafes near Rynok Square or at your office — for example, in Lviv Tech City.
Do you work with product startups? Yes. My portfolio includes SaaS, marketplaces, B2B products, fintech. I am comfortable with sprints, OKRs, discovery sessions and CustDev.
How long will my project take? A landing — 2–4 weeks, an MVP product — 6–12 weeks, a mobile app — 3–5 months.
How is payment arranged? Sole proprietor; UAH or foreign currency; stage-by-stage payments. For long contracts, monthly retainers are possible.
The Lviv clients my approach fits best fall into several profiles. Product IT companies and SaaS startups entering B2B or B2C markets in the US, UK and EU — they need a true product designer who thinks in terms of retention, activation, NRR. Outsourcing agencies and IT services looking to elevate their own brand and presale materials to the level of international competitors. Lviv hotels and restaurants competing for the attention of millions of tourists and needing world-class identity. Creative and cultural institutions — publishers, museums, festivals — for whom design is part of the mission. E-commerce brands selling from Ukraine to Europe and the US.
Over years of work with Lviv startups I have seen several recurring mistakes: designing the UI before UX hypotheses are defined — guaranteed rework after the first user tests; skipping the design system at the start — it is cheaper at discovery than after MVP; not involving the designer in product decisions — losing half of their value; treating the designer as a pair of hands rather than a partner who sees the product holistically. I work precisely as a partner — I ask uncomfortable questions, challenge weak hypotheses, defend the user.
Lviv clients are a category of their own. Here high demands for aesthetics meet pragmatic business logic. The city has many restaurateurs, hoteliers, interior designers and architects with a trained eye who immediately see the weak spots of templated design. The Lviv IT environment values technical culture, attention to detail and design system quality. I speak this shared language and offer a level of execution that holds up under the most demanding eye.
