Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most popular questions

The cost depends on the scope and complexity. There are three typical formats in my practice:

  • One-off setup — niche analysis for Mykolaiv (from port logistics to dental clinics in the Inhulskyi district), keyword research, ad copywriting, Search/PMax/remarketing setup, GA4 and GTM connection, initial negative keywords. You then run the account in-house.
  • Monthly management — ongoing optimization: search term work, bidding, auctions, ad testing, new audiences, Looker Studio reports.
  • Performance package — Google Ads bundled with SEO and conversion optimization, for businesses that want systemic lead growth, not just clicks.

Ad budget itself is separate. A typical Mykolaiv business start budget is UAH 8,000–50,000 per month depending on the niche.

Yes. Most of my Mykolaiv, Ochakiv, Voznesensk and Pervomaisk clients start with modest budgets — UAH 10–30k per month — which is normal for a regional business in southern Ukraine. The key isn’t the budget size, but configuration density: precise geo (city and region, not all of Ukraine), narrow high-intent keywords, aggressive negative keyword lists, focus on Search rather than expensive Display at the start.

With UAH 10–15k per month in Mykolaiv it’s realistic to get 50–150 targeted clicks and 5–15 leads in service niches (dental, legal, repairs, auto, hotels near Tyliguly Liman). For e-commerce it’s different — better start at UAH 25–30k and add a Performance Max with feed, especially for port exporters or agribusiness brands.

Three key differences:

  • CPC. Cost per click in Mykolaiv is 1.5–3x lower than Kyiv across most niches and slightly lower than Odesa. Dental: Kyiv ~UAH 25–60/click, Mykolaiv ~UAH 10–22. Legal: Kyiv ~40–90, Mykolaiv ~15–35. Logistics and grain export are a separate story — B2B CPCs there are higher (40–80 UAH), but LTV is also different.
  • Demand volume. Monthly demand for “dental Mykolaiv” is not “dental Kyiv”. Campaigns must be built with smaller volumes in mind — otherwise Smart Bidding can’t gather statistics.
  • Geo targeting. In Mykolaiv it makes sense to work a 30–60 km radius from the centre, covering Ochakiv, Voznesensk, Snihurivka, Bashtanka. In Kyiv geo is granular — specific districts.

I configure campaigns specifically for Mykolaiv specifics — no copy-paste of Kyiv agency templates. Details on the approach — on the Google Ads page.

Depends on business goals and funnel. Base set:

  • Search. Classic ads on search queries. Hot demand — highest ROI. Always first for Mykolaiv businesses — from clinics on Soborna street to agribusiness operators.
  • Performance Max. Automated blended campaign (Search + Display + YouTube + Discover + Maps). Good for e-commerce, agri-export brands with product feeds, and brands with ready creatives.
  • Display and Discovery. Banner ads on partner sites and in Google feed. Works for awareness and remarketing — particularly useful for hotels and restaurants in the Black Sea coast season.
  • YouTube. Video ads — In-Stream, Bumper, Shorts. Top-of-funnel: B2B lead gen for shipbuilding suppliers, IT outsourcing studios, manufacturers.
  • Demand Gen. New formats for soft conversions — Discover, YouTube, Gmail.
  • Remarketing. Returning visitors who came but didn’t convert.

How to combine this with other channels — see SMM and email marketing.

A 4-step process:

  1. Semantic core. I gather all relevant queries via Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, Serpstat, Google Trends — with Ukraine filter and extra validation of localized queries (“service Mykolaiv”, “service in Mykolaiv”, “near me”, “Korabelnyi district”, “Inhulskyi district”).
  2. Clustering. Splitting queries into intent groups: informational, navigational, commercial, transactional. Search campaigns focus on commercial and transactional.
  3. Negative keywords. A separate list — critical for Mykolaiv. I exclude “jobs”, “free”, “DIY”, “shipyard” (unless you’re a B2B supplier), “NUK”, “university”, specific competitor brands if needed, and more.
  4. Match types. Distribute by match type (Exact, Phrase, Broad+Smart Bidding) — this affects CPC, reach, and traffic quality.

Result — a structured mind-map of semantics with volumes, approximate CPC and ad-group priorities. I deliver this document along with the account. How it pairs with an SEO strategy — covered separately.

It’s the foundation of any performance campaign. Without correct conversions, Google Ads can’t optimize — Smart Bidding gets garbage signals and burns the budget. What I do:

  • Audit existing GA4 and GTM — Mykolaiv clients often already have something connected, but with errors: duplicate events, no server-side, forgotten test triggers.
  • Event map — capture all conversion points (form submit, call, add to cart, checkout, 75% scroll, session duration).
  • GTM container — set up triggers and tags: Google Ads conversions, GA4 events, Meta Pixel if needed in parallel.
  • Import to Google Ads — primary and secondary conversions, with weights for Smart Bidding.
  • Enhanced Conversions — for better matching with iOS and ad blockers.

If you have no analytics on the site at all — setup is included in the starter package. If it’s broken — we start with the audit, as described in the conversion optimization service.

Depends on conversion volume, project phase and business goal:

  • Maximize Clicks — only at the start, first 7–14 days, while there’s no conversion data. I don’t leave it running long — it burns budget fast.
  • Maximize Conversions — after the first 15–20 conversions, for 2–4 weeks of learning.
  • tCPA (target Cost per Acquisition) — when there are stable 30+ conversions per month and a known target CPL. Classic choice for lead gen in Mykolaiv — clinics, legal, repairs, hotels.
  • tROAS (target Return on Ad Spend) — for e-commerce when transactions with values are imported. Especially relevant for agri-export e-commerce projects and online stores.
  • Maximize Conversion Value — for projects with varying conversion values (e.g. cheap and expensive services running together).

A common mistake by other contractors is leaving Maximize Clicks forever. That’s the path to “we’re running ads — there are no leads”. Approach details — on the Google Ads page.

First leads come within 1–7 days of launch, if setup is correct. Stable payback — within 4–8 weeks. Why not immediately?

  • Week 1–2. Data collection. The Google Ads auction is learning — trying different CPCs, audiences, triggers. CPL is unstable in this period, “expensive” days happen.
  • Week 3–4. First optimization based on data. Cleaning irrelevant queries (Search Term Report), expanding negatives, testing new ads.
  • Week 5–8. Smart Bidding stabilizes. CPL and CPA settle, scaling begins — increasing budget, launching new campaigns.

I don’t promise “leads from day one at UAH 100”. I promise a transparent process and real results in 1–2 months. If you need a faster start — we can compress the cycle, but that should be discussed individually via the contact form.

Yes. Remarketing is mandatory because 90%+ of site visitors don’t convert on the first visit. What I set up for Mykolaiv clients:

  • Standard remarketing. Showing banners to visitors who spent more than 30 seconds on the site or viewed specific pages.
  • Dynamic remarketing. For e-commerce — banners with specific items the user viewed. Via Google Merchant Center and feed. Especially effective for agri- and industrial e-commerce projects in the Mykolaiv region.
  • RLSA (Remarketing Lists for Search Ads). Separate Search bids for users who already visited — usually higher, because conversion is higher.
  • Customer Match. Upload existing client email/phone base — target upsell or repeat purchases.
  • Similar Audiences. Google finds users similar to your clients.

For Mykolaiv businesses, remarketing is the cheapest channel in CPL terms. Often 30–40% of all leads come from it. How to amplify this via email marketing — covered separately.

Competitive analysis is a mandatory pre-launch step. Without it, you either undercut on bids or overpay. Toolkit:

  • Auction Insights in Google Ads itself — shows who you compete with on your keywords, their Impression Share and Top of Page Rate.
  • Semrush, Ahrefs PPC reports — competitor ad examples, approximate budgets, campaign history.
  • SimilarWeb — competitor traffic sources, Paid vs Organic split.
  • Manual SERP scan — review top-10 SERP for Mykolaiv on your queries, capture ads, landings, CTAs. I pay particular attention to competition between local players and Odesa/Kyiv brands entering the market.

Output — a table of 5–10 key Mykolaiv region competitors: their offers, prices, USPs, weak points. This influences both your ad copy and bidding strategy. How to apply these insights in brand positioning — a separate topic.

A common situation in Mykolaiv: the site was built “on the knee” 5+ years ago, no analytics, no clear CTA, slow — and even the best PPC won’t save it. So I always do a landing UX audit at the start:

  • Check structure (where the CTA is, where the form is, where the phone is).
  • Check speed (PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse).
  • Check mobile adaptation (60–80% of Google Ads traffic is mobile).
  • Check trust elements: testimonials, cases, guarantees.

If the site can’t be fixed with small tweaks — I recommend a redesign or a new landing page build. Running Google Ads to a “leaky” site is a budget waste. Better to invest 2 weeks in the landing and then get 3x more leads on the same budget.

Yes — and I insist on this format. Your Google Ads account is your data: campaign history, audiences, conversions, trained Smart Bidding models. If you split with an agency that owned the account — you lose everything. A classic non-transparent contractor trap I encounter regularly in Mykolaiv.

I work differently:

  • You create your Google Ads account under your email and billing.
  • I request access via Manager Account (MCC) with Standard rights.
  • All work happens in your account, you see everything in real time.
  • If we end the engagement — I just remove my MCC, and you keep full history, conversions, audiences.

Same for GA4 — you’re admin, I’m Editor. It’s a professional standard worth insisting on with any contractor. More on the approach — in the Google Ads service block.

Google Ads in Mykolaiv, Ukraine — PPC Setup and Management | Alex Filiuk

Google Ads in Mykolaiv — PPC setup and management that brings real leads

Google Ads is the most powerful digital marketing channel for businesses that need a stable client flow tomorrow, not “in 6 months when SEO kicks in”. In Mykolaiv and the Mykolaiv region, this channel is underused: many companies — from port exporters and agribusiness brands to clinics in the Central district — either never tried Google Ads, or got burned on one bad attempt and decided “it doesn’t work”. Reality is different — Google Ads works well in Mykolaiv when set up correctly: with local keyword research, realistic geo, smart negative lists, well-tuned analytics in GA4 and GTM, and managed Smart Bidding strategies. I’m Alex Filiuk, a Senior UI/UX designer and digital marketer with 15+ years of practice. My portfolio includes 120+ launched and managed ad campaigns for Ukrainian and international clients, including a number of companies from the Mykolaiv region.

This page brings together everything a business owner or marketing lead should know before commissioning Google Ads in Mykolaiv: what the process looks like, what budgets are realistic for the region, which campaign types work, how to avoid typical mistakes, and why choosing a contractor with Mykolaiv context dramatically affects ROI.

Why Google Ads is critical for businesses in Mykolaiv

In a city of around 470,000 residents and a strong small-and-medium business sector, competition in every category is intense — dental clinics, legal services, auto, repairs, healthcare, e-commerce, beauty services, hotels and restaurants. Separately — the B2B segment: suppliers for shipyards (Chornomorsky Shipbuilding, Okean, “61 Komunara”), agricultural exporters, logistics companies serving the Mykolaiv commercial port. Most clients search for solutions on Google. And the moment a potential client types “urgent dental Mykolaiv” or “logistics operator Mykolaiv port”, they’re ready to book or get in touch — the only question is who shows up first.

Google Ads in Mykolaiv performs three key functions:

  • Fast results. Unlike SEO, which takes 4–8 months to reach stable rankings, Google Ads delivers traffic on day one. For a new business or product, it’s the only realistic fast-start channel.
  • Control. You see every spent hryvnia, every click, every lead. You can pause or accelerate any time, redistribute budget across geo (Mykolaiv centre, Korabelnyi, Inhulskyi, Ochakiv, Voznesensk), audiences, and campaigns.
  • Scalability. If setup is correct and conversions are tracked — you can scale budget linearly and get more leads. Unlike organic, where growth is bounded by SERP competition.

Regional specifics: why Mykolaiv region is a separate market

Mykolaiv is a southern industrial-port hub of Ukraine with a unique mix of industries that shapes a particular Google Ads demand structure. Unlike a typical “regional” audience, several parallel markets exist here, each requiring its own ad strategy:

  • Port logistics and export. Mykolaiv commercial port, agri-export hub (Nibulon — one of the key players in the grain market), passenger direction via Ochakiv. This is a B2B audience: exporters, freight forwarders, logistics companies, processing enterprises. Their queries — “grain trader Mykolaiv”, “logistics operator export”, “cargo fumigation port” — have higher CPCs but high lead value.
  • Shipbuilding ecosystem. The legacy of Chornomorsky Shipbuilding, Okean, and “61 Komunara” forms a huge pool of B2B suppliers: metal, electrics, hydraulics, engineering services. This is niche B2B traffic where Search outperforms PMax — pinpoint queries, specific solutions.
  • Agribusiness and food processing. Sunflower oil, wheat, soybeans, processing (Sandora — one of the country’s largest juice producers), regional wineries. B2B (traders, processors) and B2C (retail brands) overlap here.
  • Resort and hospitality sector. The coast near Ochakiv, Tyliguly Liman, recreational bases — seasonal demand from spring through autumn. A separate strategy: aggressive search at peak season, remarketing in the off-season.
  • Local IT segment. Small outsourcing studios and fintech startups around MNU named after Sukhomlynskyi and NUK named after Admiral Makarov. They often look for clients in Europe and the US through Google Ads, with English-language campaigns.

This industry mix means a templated approach (“set up Search for Mykolaiv and launch”) doesn’t work. Each segment needs a separate strategy.

Types of Google Ads campaigns I run

There’s no “one campaign for all cases”. Each business needs its own mix — depending on funnel, product, and CPC in the niche. Before launch we agree what goes into the model.

  • Search campaigns. Classic ads in Google search results. Catching hot demand — people actively searching for your service or product in Mykolaiv. Highest ROI in most niches. Always start with Search.
  • Performance Max (PMax). Automated blended campaign that runs across Search, Display, YouTube, Gmail, Discover, and Maps. Google’s machine distributes budget based on your conversions. Strong tool for e-commerce, agri-export brands with feeds, and B2C with ready creative, but requires correct setup and ongoing monitoring — otherwise PMax “eats” brand queries and paints a nice but unprofitable picture.
  • Display and Discovery. Banner ads on partner sites, in Gmail, in Google Discover feed. Works for brand awareness and visitor return via remarketing. In Mykolaiv — useful for manufacturers, medical centres, education, hotels and restaurants in the resort season.
  • YouTube. Video ads — In-Stream (skip after 5 sec), Bumper (6 sec), Shorts. Top-of-funnel work: brand familiarity, audience warm-up, B2B lead gen for shipbuilding suppliers and the agricultural sector. Often underused in the Mykolaiv region.
  • Demand Gen. New formats for soft conversions — Discover, YouTube, Gmail. Display alternative with better targeting mechanics.
  • Remarketing. Returning visitors who came but didn’t convert. Cheapest channel by CPL — often 3–5x lower than cold Search.

For most Mykolaiv businesses, the start looks like this: Search + remarketing for the first 4 weeks. Then, based on results, we add PMax or YouTube. If you run e-commerce or have an export feed, PMax kicks in immediately alongside Search.

How the Google Ads launch process looks — step by step

I work via a transparent process that all clients have gone through over 15 years. Each stage has a fixed deliverable. No “trust and wait a month” — you know what’s happening every week. We work online with regular synchronous sessions on Zoom or Google Meet.

  1. Brief and market research (week 1, days 1–3). You fill in a 30+ question questionnaire about business, goals, audience, competitors, geo, budget, target CPL. In parallel I analyse your niche in the Mykolaiv region — competitors, CPC benchmarks, demand volumes.
  2. Keyword research and campaign structure (week 1, days 4–7). Building the semantic core via Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, Serpstat. Clustering by intent. Compiling the starting negative keyword list — particularly important for Mykolaiv (excluding “jobs”, “free”, “shipyard” if you’re not a B2B supplier, “NUK”, “university”, irrelevant local brands).
  3. Analytics — GA4 and GTM (week 2, days 1–3). Auditing or building Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4 from scratch. Event map, triggers, tags. Importing conversions to Google Ads, configuring Enhanced Conversions for accurate matching.
  4. Building campaigns (week 2, days 4–7). Account structure (campaigns → ad groups → keywords/ads/assets). Ads — minimum 3 RSAs per group with 15 headlines and 4 descriptions. Extensions (sitelinks, callouts, structured snippets, calls). Geo targeting — Mykolaiv and the region with radius or settlement targeting (Ochakiv, Voznesensk, Pervomaisk, Snihurivka, Bashtanka).
  5. Launch and early monitoring (week 3). Starting on Maximize Clicks for data collection. Daily Search Term Report check, adding negatives, excluding irrelevant queries. First conclusions — by day 7–10.
  6. Optimization and Smart Bidding (week 4+). Switch to Maximize Conversions, then to tCPA or tROAS — depending on conversion volume. Testing new ads (A/B). Connecting remarketing. Looker Studio dashboard for transparent reporting.

The starter cycle is 3–4 weeks until full operation with Smart Bidding. Then — monthly management with weekly reviews and monthly reports. If you need a fast start (e.g. opening a business in Mykolaiv by a specific date, or a hotel before the tourist season) — we can compress the cycle to 10–14 days via parallel work on multiple stages.

How much does Google Ads cost in Mykolaiv — real numbers

Cost has two components: specialist work (setup + monthly management) and the ad budget (money you pay directly to Google for impressions and clicks). These are fundamentally different line items.

  • One-off setup. Single payment for full account build: market research, keyword research, structure, ads, GA4 and GTM, initial negatives, launch. Suitable if you have an in-house marketer who runs the account further.
  • Monthly management. Ongoing optimization: Search Term Report, bidding, negatives, ad testing, new audiences, Smart Bidding, Looker Studio reports. Includes 4–8 hours of work per week depending on volume.
  • Performance package. Google Ads bundled with SEO and conversion optimization. For businesses that want systemic growth, not “just clicks”.

As for the ad budget: realistic numbers for a regional Mykolaiv business:

  • Small business (1 service, 1 location): UAH 8,000–15,000/mo. Enough for 50–150 targeted clicks and 5–15 leads in service niches.
  • Mid-sized business (multiple services or e-commerce): UAH 20,000–50,000/mo. Allows running Search + remarketing + PMax in parallel.
  • Active e-commerce, agri-export or aggressive scaling: UAH 50,000+/mo. Full performance strategy with YouTube, Display, audience tests.

CPC in Mykolaiv is significantly lower than Kyiv — examples from real niches: dental UAH 10–22 (Kyiv 25–60), legal UAH 15–35 (Kyiv 40–90), repairs UAH 12–25 (Kyiv 30–55). The same budget brings 1.5–3x more traffic in Mykolaiv. Use it.

Common mistakes when launching Google Ads — and how to avoid them

Over 15 years I’ve seen dozens of cases where a Mykolaiv business (and across Ukraine) burned budget on typical mistakes. Key ones:

  • Launching without conversion tracking. The campaign runs, clicks come in, but GA4 doesn’t register leads — or registers them wrong (form + call merged into one trigger). Smart Bidding receives garbage signals, optimizes “backwards” — for clicks, not for leads. The classic reason for “we spent 30k and got nothing”.
  • Geographical targeting on “Ukraine” instead of the region. A small but critical mistake. If your business serves only Mykolaiv and the region — don’t show ads in Kyiv, Kharkiv and Lviv. That’s 70%+ budget waste.
  • Small or absent negative keyword list. “Dental Mykolaiv” without negatives will catch “dental Mykolaiv jobs”, “dental Mykolaiv free”, “dental Mykolaiv negative reviews”. Each such click is UAH 15–25 of irrelevant traffic.
  • Leaving Maximize Clicks forever. It’s a starting strategy for the first days of data collection. If you don’t switch to Maximize Conversions/tCPA after the first 15–20 leads, Google keeps “buying” cheap clicks regardless of quality.
  • Performance Max without brand exclusions. PMax without correct setup “eats” your brand queries (people searching for you by name) and paints a nice attribution — as if PMax brought these clients, when they were coming via brand anyway. 20–40% of real performance is lost.
  • Ignoring the landing page. The best Google Ads campaign won’t save a site without a clear CTA, with slow loading, no mobile adaptation. As I tell my clients, ad budget and landing page budget are connected vessels.

Modern Google Ads approaches worth attention

The Google Ads ecosystem evolves fast. Here are 2025–2026 approaches I apply for Mykolaiv businesses:

  • AI-driven Smart Bidding as standard. tCPA, tROAS, Maximize Conversion Value — given correct conversions, these strategies outperform manual bids. Manual is for very specific niches or test campaigns only.
  • Performance Max + asset groups. Instead of separate DSA, Display, Discovery — one PMax campaign with several asset groups for different audiences and products.
  • First-party data. Customer Match, uploaded client lists, Enhanced Conversions with email/phone — critical in the era of iOS restrictions and cookie deprecation.
  • Server-side GTM. Migration from client-side GTM to server-side — more accurate tracking, ad blocker bypass, better site speed.
  • CRM integration. Importing offline conversions (closed deals, repeat purchases) into Google Ads — Smart Bidding optimizes not for “lead” but for “real client”. Particularly relevant for B2B shipbuilding suppliers and agri-exporters with long deal cycles.
  • Demand Gen instead of Discovery. New formats with better targeting and creative.

Cases: Google Ads for businesses in Mykolaiv and across Ukraine

My portfolio includes 130+ projects, of which a portion involves Google Ads, analytics and performance work. Among them — clients across categories: retail, services, manufacturing, IT, B2B, e-commerce, agri-export. I’ve worked with Mykolaiv companies, with clients from Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, and from the USA (New York, Los Angeles) and Europe. This lets me see how a local Mykolaiv business competes with national and international brands — and how well-run Google Ads becomes a competitive edge. Particularly interesting is how grain, oil, and finished-product exporters reach foreign B2B buyers via Google Ads.

If you want concrete examples — go to the “Projects” section or get in touch via the contact form: I’ll pick 5–10 most relevant cases for your niche. I particularly recommend looking at SaaS and e-commerce examples — performance mechanics are most fully revealed there.
