Chernivtsi is gradually becoming one of the visible IT hubs in western Ukraine. Chernivtsi IT Cluster brings together product teams, Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University trains strong engineers, local business — from hotels near the Opera House to Bukovinian wineries — increasingly thinks about its own mobile products. In this context, app design isn't 'making a mockup' but designing a product that will live in a user's pocket for years.
I'm Oleksandr Filyuk. I've worked in design for over 15 years and during that time I've delivered 130+ projects. Mobile is one of the hardest directions because three dimensions intersect here: product logic (how it earns and solves the user's task), platform constraints (iOS, Android, cross-platform), and human behavior (gestures, attention span, usage context — on transit, on the move, one-handed).
Stage one — product brief with a JTBD (Jobs To Be Done) focus. Instead of 'we need an app' we phrase it as 'when a user finds themselves in situation X, they want to achieve Y, and the app helps them do it faster and better'. This frame cuts unnecessary features upfront and focuses the team on the value core.
Stage two — scenario map and information architecture. I draw user paths: onboarding, core actions, repeat interactions, edge cases (connection loss, payment error, awaiting delivery). The output is a screen and navigation structure agreed with the team.
Stage three — wireframes and Figma prototype. I make black-and-white mockups with real states (loading, error, empty), not only happy paths. The prototype is clickable and can be tested with users before the UI stage. This saves weeks otherwise spent on a 'pretty' but inconvenient product.
Stage four — UI design following Apple HIG (iOS) and Material Design 3 (Android), or a unified system for cross-platform. Colors, typography, microinteractions, animations, illustrations are selected. Everything is checked for accessibility against WCAG 2.2 AA.
Stage five — design system and developer handoff. I organize the file so the dev team can work without constant questions. I export tokens in a format suitable for Flutter or React Native, describe animations, prepare spacing and state specs.
Tourism apps. Hotels near the Metropolitans' Residence of Bukovina and Dalmatia, apartments on Universytetska Street, tour services. A mobile app delivers what a website can't: fast entry for repeat guests, push notifications, two-tap booking, map integration for walks along Turkish Square and Hetman Sahaidachnyi Street.
Wine clubs. Chernivtsi region wineries build enthusiast clubs and subscriptions for rare batches. A mobile app is a perfect channel: collection catalog, varietal stories, tasting bookings, release pushes. The design here has to feel 'premium' through typography and rhythm, not excess.
EdTech. Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, Bukovinian State Medical University and Bukovinian University create both a strong talent base and demand for modern learning products. I design language apps, medical education platforms, trainers for graduates.
Local services and fintech. Delivery, service booking, local wallets and loyalty programs. A segment where user expectations are shaped by global products (Uber, Revolut, Booking), and a Chernivtsi product has to match the same UX bar.
First — neglecting states. The designer shows a perfect screen with data but doesn't show what happens during loading, error or empty list. In a real app the user falls into these states constantly — and that's where loyalty drains.
Second — copying patterns between iOS and Android. What's native to iPhone (bottom navigation, subtle shadows, specific gestures) feels foreign on Android — and vice versa. I've seen apps that looked 'fine' but lost 30-40% conversion on one platform due to mismatch with native patterns.
Third — no design system. The first 20 screens fly, and by screen 50 the app looks like different people built it — because without a system every screen was made from scratch. I lay down a system from the start, even for small MVPs — it pays off at the next update.
Step one — a short contact. You describe the idea in a few sentences: what kind of product, what stage, what budget. I respond the same day and offer a free 45-60 minute product consultation — online or in Chernivtsi. In that meeting we validate the idea together and define a rough scope.
If working together makes sense — I prepare a proposal with phases, prices, schedule and team (sometimes I bring in a product analyst or researcher if it strengthens the result). We sign a contract, you make the first payment, we start with the product brief. I keep you in the loop with weekly demos: you see wireframes, prototypes, UI screens, the final design system. After developer handoff I stay available for 2 weeks free of charge for team consultations.
If your mobile product is part of a broader brand — also check the web design in Chernivtsi and logo design pages. I often lead clients comprehensively: mark — site — app — and that's the most effective format because the brand stays coherent from day one.
