Chernihiv is a regional capital on the Desna River with around 285 thousand residents, a city where Krasna Square, Mahistratska Street and Heroes Alley coexist with the strong product scene of Chernihiv IT Cluster and a powerful industrial layer around it: wood processing, food, textile, machinery, music instruments (Chernihiv-Muzyka), historical tourism and the regional agricultural sector. I am Oleksandr Filyuk, 15+ years in design and product, with 130+ delivered projects. In Chernihiv the classical agency format of manager plus juniors does not work — local business trusts specific people, not brands. That is why I lead consulting personally.
My approach is partnership. I do not arrive with a pre-cooked recipe and a slide saying everyone needs a new website. I sit next to the owner, look at P&L, unit economics, MRR/ARR, churn, LTV, CAC, channel ROI, ICP, the current product and the team. Only then we make decisions together. This means sobriety, not hope.
I offer three formats from which the owner picks based on readiness. The first is a 1-day strategic intensive. In a single day of deep immersion we run a business diagnosis, formulate 5-7 priority decisions and prepare an action plan. This works when strategy needs a quick shake-up — for example, after a market shift or before launching a new line.
The second format is a 4-8 week project. Here we go deep: I analyze P&L, run JTBD interviews with key clients, examine the AARRR funnel, look at North Star and OKRs. The output is a strategic document and a 6-12 month product roadmap. This format suits owners ready for serious change with resources for execution.
The third format is a 6-12 month retainer (fractional partner). I join the team as an external strategist who keeps OKRs and North Star alive, works with the CEO on key decisions, reviews product hypotheses and supports communication with investors and partners. This is for mature companies wanting a grown-up strategic voice on a regular basis without the cost of an in-house C-level.
Second-generation family business is a separate and important category. Chernihiv has dozens of family companies passing from founders to children, and most strategic challenges arise at this junction: brand modernization, operational digitization, transition from the founder's shop to a modern chain or e-commerce. I help preserve the legacy while introducing modern instruments — from CRM to product OKRs.
Regional agribusiness is the second strong segment. My work focuses on supply digitization, export strategies, direct B2B sales and brand-building that sounds convincing to European partners. Visible growth appears when the producer starts thinking in product, not harvest: packaging, story, traceability, certifications, buyer portal. I have seen this attract many times more market attention to a company.
Wood processing, food, textile and machinery are industries that form the economic backbone of the Chernihiv region. For them consulting is primarily about EU export, B2B brand restructuring, operational digitization (ERP, portals, document flow) and modernization of financial reporting for international partners. In the post-war period grants and reconstruction programs were added — also requiring grown-up strategy and honest numbers.
A separate block — product teams from Chernihiv IT Cluster and graduates of ChNPU and ChNTU launching startups. Here I help search for PMF, validate ICP, build unit economics for the first investment rounds and prepare pitch decks. It is work at the intersection of product, finance and design — and this combination is exactly what sets me apart from classical consultants.
At the start we jointly set OKRs for 1-2 quarters — 3-5 measurable goals. On top we hold a North Star metric reflecting real customer value. I use the AARRR funnel for growth, HEART metrics for UX, unit economics for the financial picture and RICE/ICE for hypothesis prioritization.
I do not promise 5x growth in a month — any such promise is either naive or dishonest. I promise an honest process, sober hypotheses, regular reviews and visible improvement on key metrics over 1-2 quarters of systemic work. In reality, this often means we first remove 2-3 serious problems (such as churn or ineffective channels), and only then sustained growth begins.
Chernihiv and the region are passing through an important post-war reconstruction stage, and windows of opportunity open and close fast. Those who revised their strategy, diversified channels, fixed P&L and digitized operations gain a noticeable edge — both locally and on export markets. I see this every month in my own projects.
If you feel the business is stuck, the team executes but the result does not come, or decisions are made intuitively without data — it is a signal to invite an external view. See the business consulting page and the related UX audit in Chernihiv. Often the first step is a short diagnosis, after which it becomes clear which format is needed next.
