Over recent years e-commerce in Chernihiv has grown from an experiment into a primary sales channel for many companies. At Hollywood Mall it is now common to see a local brand running a full online store with nationwide delivery. Manufacturers from Novozavodskyi who used to sell only wholesale are launching retail online. Chernihiv Region farms are setting up direct-to-consumer sales without intermediaries. Tourist brands sell souvenirs and merch themed around the Chernihiv Detinets, Boldyna Hora and Alley of Heroes worldwide.
I am Oleksandr Filyuk, a web developer with 15+ years of experience and 130+ delivered projects. E-commerce is a separate, most complex strand of my work. A store is not just a website with a buy button. It is a system of dozens of components: catalog, filters, cart, checkout, payments, shipping, inventory, returns, analytics, antifraud, marketing. A flaw in any link, and you lose conversion or, worse, money. So I build stores as engineering systems, not as templated pages.
The first decision we make in the brief is what to build on. There is no universally best platform — only one that fits your case.
A custom store on Next.js, React and TypeScript is my number one choice for projects with non-standard catalogs, B2B pricing, configurators, complex shipping or top-tier speed requirements. It gives full control over UX, SEO and analytics but requires more investment and time. Excellent for manufacturers with proprietary products and scaling brands.
Shopify is optimal for brands with international ambitions, up to 5-10K SKUs and a desire to launch fast. The platform ships ready infrastructure: payments, shipping, APIs, themes. I help with theme customization, Ukrainian-service integrations (Nova Poshta, LiqPay) and rollout.
WooCommerce is a practical pick for a small Ukrainian store with typical integrations and a team comfortable in WordPress. I tune it for market reality: Nova Poshta, Ukrposhta, LiqPay, Fondy, WayForPay, 1C or BAS sync, security, performance.
A store without integrations is just a pretty catalog. Real value emerges where the site is seamlessly tied to logistics, payments and the accounting system.
Shipping: Nova Poshta is a standard. I wire the API so the customer sees real branches and parcel lockers at checkout, gets accurate cost and time estimates, and you generate waybills from the admin panel in one click. Ukrposhta is another mandatory channel, especially for small towns in Chernihiv Region. For larger cities I plug in courier services.
Payments: LiqPay for simplicity and Apple Pay/Google Pay. Fondy for flexible subscriptions and tokenization. WayForPay where split-payment support matters. Stripe for international sales. Multiple gateways can coexist on one store, and I help model the optimal mix by fee.
Accounting: two-way exchange with 1C or BAS is a key task for Chernihiv manufacturers and retailers. Stock, prices and new SKUs flow from accounting to the site; orders, payments and customer data flow back. Built over REST API or Node.js middleware with a queue. Same for RetailCRM, Bitrix24 and other CRMs.
Conversion is not a magic "sell more" button but rigorous work along the buyer journey. I start with checkout: minimum fields, guest mode, address autofill via Nova Poshta API, visible shipping rules. Then product pages: fast LCP, honest photos, video galleries, visible stock, ratings, cross-sell. Cart with transparent promo logic and no last-step surprise fees.
After launch the equally important work begins: funnel analytics, A/B tests, bottleneck optimization. I help set up GA4, Hotjar and custom analytics in PostgreSQL so you see real numbers, not guesses.
Chernihiv and its region are a specific market. Strong agricultural seasonality: autumn — peak orders for ag-tech, spring — seeds and fertilizers. Demand for post-war reconstruction materials — hardware stores see strong online orders. Tourist souvenirs themed around Chernihiv Detinets and Boldyna Hora sell across Ukraine and abroad. Chernihiv-Muzyka instruments have a loyal pro audience.
Each segment has its own particularities: oversized-shipment tariffs, complexity of connecting to manufacturer accounting, B2B price tiers for wholesalers. I bake this into store architecture from day one — so you do not rebuild critical modules a year after launch.
Free brief — detailed spec — design — development in weekly sprints — full QA cycle — launch support — warranty period — optional monthly retainer. You get a Git repository, documentation, manuals and contacts for every integrated service. The contract fixes timing, confidentiality and code IP transfer. No vendor lock-in.
